Competitive Bidding Issues Survey

Help Us Educate Congress and the Public!
Share Your Story!

If you have experienced issues in ordering durable medical equipment and supplies, please share your story below. This information will help educate our members of congress and the general public of the issues and the need to fix this program that is increasing burdens on our patients and our healthcare systems.

Medicare’s durable medical equipment, prosthetic, orthotic and supplies (DMEPOS) competitive bidding program has affected thousands of Medicare beneficiaries who use medical equipment and supplies in their home. Medicare has severely restricted the number of companies that are allowed to provide the medical equipment and supplies. This in turn has had a great impact on our healthcare systems. There are many issues, including delays in obtaining durable medical equipment and supplies for patients resulting in delayed discharges.

In addition, Medicare rolled out the competitive bidding pricing to rural America January 1, 2016. Although all suppliers can still provide the equipment and supplies, unlike in the metropolitan areas, the rural areas have no prospect of increased market share and the severe cuts have brought access to care issues as home medical equipment and supply businesses have been forced to modify their business models and some have been forced to close their doors.
